About the eFile System

The Snohomish County Assessor’s eFile system is designed to let taxpayers and tax preparers file their personal property tax listings over the internet. When you go to the eFile home page you see the following menu options:

Enroll – enter and submit your eFile enrollment application.
My Account – log in here to update and change your account information, personal property filing, and tax accounts.
DOR filing instructions – Basic information from the Washington State Department of Revenue regarding personal property taxes.
Help – Display help information for the eFile system.




Enroll in the eFile Personal Property Tax System

1. From the eFile home page, click on the Enroll menu option.

2. Enter your information in the ‘Applicant Information’ section. Required information is denoted by a red asterisk.

3. For every personal property tax filing account you wish to file electronically:
• Enter the account number in the ‘Property Tax Account’ box.
• Click the ‘Add to List’ button.

4. When you have completed the above steps, click on the ‘Continue’ button.

5. The system will display the information you have entered. Review the information and click the ‘Edit’ button if you wish to correct any mistakes.

6. If all the information is correct, click on the ‘Continue’ button.

7. The system will ask you to check a box to once again confirm your enrollment in eFile. Check the box and click on confirm.

8. Your eFile application is then reviewed by the Snohomish County Assessor’s staff. It will be reviewed within 24 business hours. A confirmation email will be sent to the email address provided along with your username and password.




eFile Account – Logging In

To log in to your eFile account.

1. Go to the eFile home page using a compatible web browser.

2. Click on the ‘My Account’ menu option.

3. Enter the user name and password the Snohomish County Assessor’s Office has provided you.

4. Click on the ‘Login’ button.

eFile Account – Forgotten Password

The eFile system will send you an email with your password should you forgot it. To retrieve your password:

1. Go to the eFile web Page

2. Click on the login link in the upper right hand corner of the menu.

3. Click on the 'Retrieve Account Information' link located below the login box.

4. Enter the email address you registered with and click the 'submit' button. An email with your password will be sent out.

eFile Account Settings – eFile Account Information

To update your eFile account settings and information:

1. Log in to the eFile system

2. Click on the ‘My Account’ menu option

3. Click on the ‘Change My Enrollment Information’ link.

4. Under the ‘Account Owner Information’ section, change any information that needs to be updated (ie address, phone number, etc)

5. When finished, click on the ‘Submit Changes’ button at the bottom of the web page.




eFile Account Settings – Add/Remove Personal Property Accounts

To add or remove personal property filing accounts from your eFile profile:

1. Log in to the eFile system

4. Under the ‘Current Electronic Filing Accounts’ section:

• To add an account, enter the account's personal property tax account number in the box labeled ‘Property Tax Account’ and click the ‘Add to List’ button.

• To remove an account, select the check box next to the account in the list of accounts. Click the ‘Remove Selected’ button.

5. When finished, click the ‘Submit Changes’ button.




Personal Property Account – Change Status

3. Click on the ‘View My Personal Property Filing Accounts’ link.

4. From your list of personal property accounts, select the account you would like to change and click the ‘Open the Selected Account for Filing’ button.

5. Click on the ‘Change Status’ tab.

6. Click in the checkbox labeled ‘I want to report a Business Change of Status’.

• If the business has been sold:

o Click in the circle labeled ‘Business Sold’
o Fill out the following information: New owner’s name, date of sale, mailing address, phone #, sale amount and breakdown.

• If the business has closed:

o Click in the circle labeled ‘Business Closed’
o Fill out the following information: date of closure, disposition of assets, and forwarding address.

7. When completed, click the ‘Save Changes’ button.






Personal Property Account – Change Business Type

2. Click on the ‘View My Personal Property Filing Accounts’ link.

3. From your list of personal property accounts, select the account you would like to change and click the ‘Open the Selected Account for Filing’ button.

4. Click on the ‘Business Type’ tab.

5. Click in the checkbox marked ‘I want to change business type selections’

6. Click in the circle next to the appropriate legal entity type.

7. If a sole proprietor, answer the questions relating to the head of family deduction.

8. Click the ‘Save Changes’ button.




Personal Property Account – Change Address

3. Click on the ‘View My Personal Property Filing Accounts’ link.

4. From your list of personal property accounts, select the account you would like to change and click the ‘Open the Selected Account for Filing’ button.

5. Click on the ‘Change of Address’ tab.

6. Click in the checkbox marked ‘I want to report a change of address’

7. In the box labeled ‘Date of Change’, enter the date the address change is effective.

o To change the mailing address, check the ‘Change of Mailing Address’ checkbox and fill out the relevant information.

o To change the situs or physical address of the business, check the ‘Change of Location Address’ check box and fill out the relevant information.

8. Click the ‘Save Changes’ button.




Personal Property Account – Change Supplies Value

4. From your list of personal property accounts, select the account you would like to change and click the ‘Open the Selected Account for Filing’ button.

5. Click on the ‘Inventory’ tab.

6. From the list of items displayed for your business, select the check box next to the item that is labeled supplies.

7. Click on the ‘Edit Selected Items’ button.

8. In the box labeled ‘Revised Cost’, enter the new value in whole dollar amounts.

9. From the drop down box labeled ‘Reason’, select the most applicable reason for the change in value.

10. In the notes field, add any notes you feel are relevant.

11. When completed, click on the ‘Save’ button.

12. On the ‘Inventory’ screen, make sure to click the ‘Save Personal Property Listing’ button.

4. From your list of personal property accounts, select the account you would like to change and click the ‘Open the Selected Account for Filing’ button.

5. Click on the ‘Inventory’ tab.

6. From the list of items displayed for your business, select the check box next to the item that is labeled supplies.

4. From your list of personal property accounts, select the account you would like to change and click the ‘Open the Selected Account for Filing’ button.

5. Click on the ‘Inventory’ tab.

6. Click on the ‘Input New Items’ button.

7. In the box labeled ‘Item Description’, enter a detailed description of the item.

8. In the box labeled ‘Purchase Year’, enter the year the equipment was purchased.

9. In the box labeled ‘Cost’, enter the original cost of the item including shipping and freight but excluding any sales tax.

10. From the drop down box labeled ‘Reason’, select a category that best fits the item.

11. In the box labeled ‘Notes’, enter any notes regarding the item.

12. Click on the ‘Save Item and Done’ button if you are adding only this one item. Click on the ‘Save Item and Add Another’ button if you need to add another item to your inventory.

13. On the ‘Inventory’ screen, make sure to click the ‘Save Personal Property Listing’ button.




Personal Property Account – Delete Item

4. From your list of personal property accounts select the account you would like to change and click the ‘Open the Selected Account for Filing’ button.

6. From the list of items displayed for your business, select the check box next to the item that is labeled supplies.

7. Click on the ‘Edit Selected Items’ button.

8. In the box labeled ‘Revised Cost’, enter 0.

9. From the drop down box labeled ‘Reason’, select the most applicable reason for the disposal of the asset.

10. In the notes field, add any notes you feel are relevant.

11. When completed, click on the ‘Save’ button.

12. On the ‘Inventory’ screen, make sure to click the ‘Save Personal Property Listing’ button.




Personal Property Account – Paste Bulk Items

4. From your list of personal property accounts, select the account you would like to change and click the ‘Open the Selected Account for Filing’ button.

5. Click on the ‘Inventory’ tab.

6. Click on the ‘Paste Bulk Items’ button.

7. The system will then let you paste a list of bulk items. The list must be in the following format: text only with a delimiter between records. If you are not sure how to do this, please see the Assessor’s spreadsheet on how to export items from Excel into the appropriate format by clicking here.

8. Choose the delimiter your data uses.

9. Click in the large empty box and paste your items.

10. Click the ‘Save Bulk Items’ button.




Personal Property Account – Submit or Save Personal Property Listing

4. From your list of personal property accounts, select the account you would like to change and click the ‘Open the Selected Account for Filing’ button.

6. Click on the ‘Submit Personal Property Listing’ button or the 'Save Listing' button.




Personal Property Account – Personal Property Assessment Notice

Once the Assessor's office has completed their review of the electronically filed listing, an assessment notice will be mailed to the business address you provided on your enrollment page.
